About Me

Patty Marsette, MFT

You Deserve to Feel Great. I’m Here to Help.

I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in both the state of California (online only) and the state of Washington.

I graduated from John F. Kennedy University with a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and did my clinical training at the Sunnyvale Community Counseling Center, which is a training site for the University.

My duties included working with adults, children, and couples. I was also clinical staff at the Counseling Center, helping to train, educate, and mentor new counselors, which is a passion of mine.

During the CZU fires that occurred in the Santa Cruz Mountains in August 2019, my husband and I lost our home. A few months later, we relocated to Washington State.

In the interim I studied and took the board examination to become licensed as an MFT here in my new home state. I still continue to see clients in California, using an online format.

Something that the COVID restrictions taught me: online therapy really does work and even has certain advantages, such as convenience — there is no longer an issue of being too far away, dealing with the commute and traffic.

My main focus is with seeing individuals. Although I have experience with, and see clients with a variety of issues, my expertise is with trauma and the fallout from trauma, such as anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD.

I am sensitive to the issues that come with trauma and strive to create a safe, supportive, healing space…and a lot of effort is made to build up resources and strengths at my client’s pace.

I am also a certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapist,  an effective treatment for trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR helps my clients get to the heart of their issues quickly, which then allows them to release and resolve their trauma.

I love therapy and consider it to be one of the greatest privileges and honor to join my clients on their journey of self-discovery and healing! It can be among the most challenging and rewarding experiences of one’s life and there is nothing quite like it.

Having witnessed firsthand the transformations that can take place, I find myself in awe of the capacity for humans to transcend conditions, situations, and old wounds.

Although my focus at this time is on adults, I also have considerable experience working with children, as I was a counselor in the school system for a number of years and found that I have a knack for connecting with children quite easily.

My work with children is systemic, meaning that the focus is not just on the child, but also includes meetings with parents and others who may be a part of the child’s life. My specialty is with children in the age range of 3rd to 6th grades.

I love this age group! They still have the openness and trust that children have, yet at the same time, their ability to reflect and problem solve never fails to amaze me!

My style is collaborative and I am a strong believer in the innate wisdom and healing ability of each person. I lean towards a holistic approach that connects body, mind, and spirit and I like to include all three in the healing process. I also believe that self-improvement is a lifelong process and the greatest adventure, and as such I never tire of this work, both for myself and for my clients!
