"And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom." Anias Nin
First, the practical details: I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in private practice in the West San Jose area, which includes Santa Clara, Campbell, Cupertino, Sunnyvale, and Saratoga. I graduated from John F. Kennedy University with a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology and also did my training at the Sunnyvale Community Counseling Center, which is a training site for the University. At this time, I am clinical staff at the Counseling Center, helping to train and mentor new counselors, which is also a passion of mine.
I see individuals, couples, and teens. Although I have experience with, and see clients with a variety of issues, my expertise is with trauma and the fallout from trauma, such as anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD. I am very sensitive to the issues that come with trauma and I strive to create a safe, supportive, healing space, and a lot of effort is made to build up resources and strengths at my client’s pace.
I love therapy and I consider it to be one of the greatest privileges and honor to join my clients on their journey. It can be among the most challenging and rewarding experiences of one’s life and there is nothing quite like it. Having witnessed firsthand the transformations that can take place, I find myself in awe at the capacity for humans to transcend earlier conditions, situations, and old wounds.
Although my focus is on adults, I also have considerable experience working with children, as I was a counselor in the school system for several years and found that I have a knack for connecting with children quite easily. My work with children is systemic, meaning that my focus is not just on the child, but also includes meetings with parents and others who may be a part of the child’s life.
My style is collaborative and I am a strong believer in the innate wisdom and healing ability of each person. I lean towards a holistic approach that connects body, mind, and spirit and I like to include all three in the healing process. I also believe that self-improvement is a lifelong process and the greatest adventure, and as such I never tire of this work, both for myself and for my clients.
